Congratulations! You just finished this module’s material on how to make mission plans for fears that are closely related to autism.

• When autism-related behaviors that cause anxiety start to interfere with your and/or your family’s life, it can be helpful to make mission plans and work on them.
• When you work on fears or anxiety that is related to characteristics of autism, it is important to:
  • Consider a goal that is consistent with your child’s abilities. For example, if your child is afraid of situations with loud noises, the goal might be to sit through a situation with loud noises (e.g., a school assembly) with the help of noise-cancelling headphones.
  • Make mission plans more gradual with multiple small steps.
• Feel free to get creative when you are creating more gradual mission plans. Brainstorm ways you can incorporate audio clips, pictures, or videos.

Over the next week:

1. Practice the steps in your child’s current mission plan!
2. If your child has anxiety related to autism, such as sensory sensitivity or insistence on sameness, try to make a mission plan on it! Refer to Module 4 for making a new mission plan, and be sure to talk with your child and incorporate their opinion when making this new mission plan.
