Professional Statement

Caitlin A. Fitzgerald, M.D., FACS is an assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Trauma, Bariatrics, and Acute Care Surgery. She specializes in acute care surgery with a focus on trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical critical care. Dr. Fitzgerald earned her medical degree at Emory University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in general surgery at Emory University and received advanced training and both trauma and surgical critical care through a fellowship at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital. She is board certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care and joined the º£½ÇÉçÇø faculty in the fall of 2025.

Dr. Fitzgerald has many research interests including trauma video review, trauma outcomes, and surgical resident education. She is the PI for a multicenter trial focusing on low-grade colon injuries and is also the PI of a multicenter trial evaluating trauma ECMO. She is an Associate Member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST) and holds a position on the Associate Member Council. She is also actively involved in the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
