The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Psychiatry Residency at º£½ÇÉçÇø is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education for four-year residency training in General Psychiatry, two-year fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and one-year fellowship training in Addiction Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Women's Mental Health, Forensic Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. With respect to psychology training programs, º£½ÇÉçÇø offers a one-year APA-accredited Psychology Internship program, as well as a one-year APPIC-accredited postdoctoral Psychology Fellowship program. Additionally, º£½ÇÉçÇø offers a one-year Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry Fellowship.
The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences commits to training eager residents and fellows in general and child psychiatry and psychologists. Besides the lectures and bookwork, trainees are educated by having the experience of working with real people who are seeking real help at Houston-area hospitals and the Baylor Psychiatry Clinic.
Trainees take rotations at affiliated hospitals in the Texas Medical Center: Houston Methodist Hospital, Ben Taub Hospital, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Texas Children's Hospital.
Trainees also can choose an elective rotation in their third or fourth year at The Menninger Clinic, where patients receive a broad range of therapies that emphasize treatment methods utilizing psychopharmacological medications and psychotherapies. Trainees are supervised by senior staff members, throughout each affiliated area, who oversee their work.
Undergraduate Medical Education
The Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences provides º£½ÇÉçÇø medical students a wide range of learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and clinical skills to perform psychiatric evaluations, ​diagnoses, and evidence-based treatment strategies while improving rapport and communication skills. Our students first attend foundational sciences curriculum courses and then clinical curriculum courses. Students are able to choose sub-internship and elective courses as well.

Training Verification
All general adult residency training verifications should be submitted to Molly Connor/Shawva Lovelady. There is a $75 charge for verifications for all trainees who have been out of the program for two years or longer. There is also a $75 charge for verifications within two years of program exit if five verifications have already been completed. You may submit your verification request via mail, email, or fax:

Texas Psychiatry Chief Resident Leadership Retreat 2025
The Texas Psychiatry Chief Resident Leadership Retreat is an immersive, full-day event designed to empower the next generation of psychiatry leaders. Each year, psychiatry chief residents from across Texas come together to build lasting professional networks, exchange innovative ideas, and share practical strategies for navigating the challenges of their unique chief resident roles. Through interactive workshops and skill-building sessions, participants strengthen their communication, collaboration, and leadership skills—preparing them to make a meaningful impact within their programs and beyond.
